Young Smokers?

I've been smooking since I was 15 years old, and always kind of thought "Man, I sure was young when I started smoking" and always thought of it as something kind of rebellious. But, yesterday, as I was walking through town minding my own business, I suddenly saw myself being approached by two little boys, about 12 years old. Although they were dressed kinda punky, you could see that they would have even made Justin Bieber look like an old man.
Anyways, they obviously saw me smoking and straight away asked me for a fire, and me, being the naive bastard I am, instantly thought "why would those little wannabe punks want a fire?"
After being caught totally off-guard when they pulled out a pack of Marlboro Menthols (baah), I asked them if they weren't too young to be smoking.
They just looked at me like sheep and like they never heard of smoking being illegal until you're 18, and I asked them politely to hand me their fags and fuck off.
Well, they did so, and I got rid of those nasty menthols.

So, was my reaction correct? Is it okay to stop those kids from smoking, although they will surely have bought another pack by now?
Or should I just accept that kids will always start smoking at younger and younger ages?

  2. I think it's out of any one mans influence.
In my opinion there's just to many factors that will decide wether a kid will start smoking or not.
Just accept the fact that there are kids who smoke and kids who don't and move on.

  3. Eh if you try to get kids to stop doing something they will probably do it just to spite you.

  5. The only thing you did wrong was throwing away the free fags lol. There's a girl where I work who's 14 or 15, and she does smoke. I did call her out and say to her "You do know that you're underage right?" she just said to me "You have to be 18 to buy them, not to smoke them". Part of me wanted to punch her in the face. About 80% of my family smokes. I don't have a problem with smokers though really, it's a sad truth most people start young, often to "rebel" or "look cool". As we get older we just naturally change our thoughts on things, it's how you can do something at fifteen, but then when older, tell someone else not to do it even though you did.

  7. I think that the goverment can try banning it but that won't work for the majority of kids that want to smoke. A peer of mine started smoking when 15 and he quit just when he was 18, so I think it's just something some kids are inclined to do.

  8. I myself started smoking when I was 10 lol. I was just curious because my dad smokes too and I got a bad cough then. After that, I smoked with my friends sometimes but then I totally quited because a relative of mine got lung cancer. Btw, nice blog, followed.

  11. ah...don't think the kids will stop doing something like that so easily. It's really sad that they smoke at a very young age like 12 though. they're not even teens! I myself was very curious about smoking when I was young but I didn't try it until later.
    Nice blog btw :)

  13. People should make their own choices. People often do bad stuff and never stop cause they always meet resistence and fight it. People I know who stopped smoking where people who could keep smoking if they wanted to but chose to stop on their own. Having people try and stop you just makes you wanna do it more.
Plus cell phones might cause brain cancer and kids use cell phones a lot so the kids will probably die of brain cancer before they could ever die of lung cancer!

  15. You shouldn't take away their cigarettes, but you may certainly try to stop them from smoking.
