War in Lybia - Freedom for Lybia or Crusade for Oil?

It's all over the News at the moment - the United Nations attack Lybian Troops in an attempt to protect revolutionists from their own Army. It seems like a noble deed to protect the military inferior-equipped revolutionists from al Gaddafi's Fighter Jets - but in my opinion this sounds a lot like another military operation that had its 8th anniversary two days ago: Operation Iraqi Freedom. Back then, the USA attacked Iraq in order to dispossess Saddam Hussein who was supposed to be in possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction, which turned out to be false. Anyways, i fear that Lybia might turn into a new Iraq, even now some say that the UN only erected the no-fly zone to take control over Lybia and its Oil resources. Also, Lybia is way richer and has better military equipment than Iraq back then. Ironic is, that Lybia bought High-Tech German warfare equipment, which can get more than dangerous even to American equipment.

But, still, in my opinion it is right to fight Muammar al Gaddafi! What would have happened if nobody stopped Hitler from waging war on his own and other peoples of europe?
Ordering your military to kill your own People is wrong. A good Leader has to know when he has to go. And if he doesn't go, we will force him to.

  4. Gotta be honest, didn't even know about this. Good read.

  5. I'm not sure it's all about oil, although that may be an underlying cause, I think the crusade to overthrow dictators that murder their own people is going strong. Whether that's right or wrong... I can't say.

  6. wow a good opinion! But Lybia is close to the european union, so its cheaper to have our army's stationed there....

  8. Sarcozy also has personal reasons for attacking Gaddafi. Sarcozy owes Gadaffi money ..

  9. Very nice post. I like political posts. It's always nice to hear other people's opinions on these matters.

  10. Bit of both imo. Gadaffi needs to go, but at the same time, the west seems kinda "eager" to launch air strikes.

  12. I'd like to believe it is for freedom for the Libyan people, rather than oil. But I guess each of the involved parts has their own agendas.

  13. Holy shit. Whoever took that got that shot perfectly.

It's not a crusade though. The people backing this no fly zone and "limited operations" are the leaders of nations that were once in bed with Libya. And their citizens are smart. If they realize that their leaders are still supporting Gaddhafi who is being overthrown by his people, France and Italy will face their own riots.

  17. Your last point really hit home for me. When the establishment is corrupt, it's time to dismantle it.

  24. Hard to say, I have never seen any proof of a crusade for oil, and the average price of gas where I live has gone up $2.85 in the last 10 years so I am kind of skeptical.

  25. It's surprising how slow the reaction was, but it makes sense, Libya only supplies us with 2% of our oil.

  26. Even if it's only 2%, it's a whole other 2% that the US can control. I reckon they're just greedy pigs who want the guns & the glory.

  27. Of course it's for oil. There's nothing sacred anymore.

  28. I think we are "helping" so we can get our hands on that oil. What pisses me off more is that none of this went through congress. We are officially the UN's private army.

  29. always in there for the oil, the well being of the country comes second, sadly.
